Designer Desires is a great website specialising in pre-owned designer clothing and accessories and on Thursday they're holding An Evening of Style at Porthcawl's Hi-Tide Inn. Showing fabulous Christmas gifts and a style show hosted by style consultants Elaine Boddy and Lisa Pauley-Cordes. Models are everyday women and there will be plenty of buying opportunities. Tickets are £5 each with proceeds going to The Stroke Association.  

The Denim Drive event runs now through December 18th, and consists of more than 120 "Denim Drop" locations all over Northern Nevada. People can drop off jeans, socks and underwear for kids who really need them. The wagon will travel with a procession beginning at Lawlor Events Center down South Virginia and Kietzke Lane on Saturday, November 21st, stopping at participating businesses and loading up with donations to be delivered to local children cared for by the residential Kids Kottage, the McGee Center for Adolescent Services, and Washoe County Social Services.

Joan Barringer hasn't missed a fashion show at the Englewood Art Center in 20 years. In fact, she attended the annual event even before there was an Englewood Art Center, back in the days when it was simply known as the Art Guild. When the center was housed on Dearborn Street before it moved to McCall Road, she went to the annual fashion shows.  

Pittsburgh will join the ranks of New York, Dallas and Miami when fashionistas gather to debut Pittsburgh Fashion Week, set for Sept. 27 through Oct. 3. "This event will show that Pittsburgh is a region of style as well as steel," said Miyoshi Anderson, executive director and founder of Pittsburgh Fashion Week, at a Friday news conference. "Pittsburgh is a wonderful sports town, has a great cultural presence, and has been recognized as the most livable city," said Anderson, a Pittsburgh native with a successful modeling career.

Holiday Hair will hold a cut-a-thon event in memory of Chris Sijtsma of Landisburg on Sunday. Chris, the husband of stylist Nicole Sijtsma, who has worked at the South Middleton store on Walnut Bottom Road since 2005, died of a sudden heart attack Oct. 22. He was 39.  

We reported earlier this week that fast fashion names such as Forever 21 and H&M are becoming more popular than brand names with Japanese shoppers during the recession. But it's not just cheaper brands that are thriving; second-hand clothing stores are also doing a roaring trade. Used clothing outlet Don Don Down opened two new stores in Japan just this month (one in Sapporo and one in Tokyo) and is due to open another in Tokushima in December.  

A top South Korean model who was a fixture at fashion week in Paris and London was found dead at her apartment in Paris, an official said on Friday. Daul Kim, 20, was found dead on Thursday by French police, a Foreign Ministry official in Seoul said. The official declined to provide further details and asked not to be named, citing ministry policy.

New York's fading Garment District will be seeing some fresh faces next year, with the creation of an incubator for young designers in a former showroom on West 38th Street. Kliment Halsband Architects will be renovating the third-floor space, creating studios leased at below market rates to 12 fashion designers who will be chosen via a competition next year.
